Release

A few of my friends are going through a tough time at the moment. I wrote this poem around November last year when my beautiful golden labrador dog, Sam was dying. So, I hope this poem helps you get through this difficult time in your life.

Letting go of those you love,
Is like releasing a sea turtle,
At the beach.
The waves of emotion,
Come and go,
Ebb and flow,
Sometimes rushing at your feet.
The freezing water chokes your lungs.
But eventually,
Like the sea turtles,
Return to the sea.

You grasp,
Desperately onto those fond memories,
Of the past.
But then, you must let go.
You must peer beyond the ocean,
The vast unknown,
And the un-lived future.
Everything becomes still and quiet,
Too much serenity to bare.

Then,
One day,
You will return to the beach.
You will dip,
Your tip toes,
Into the warm sand again.
And you will look towards the beautiful,
Hopeful horizon,
And feel at peace again.
